AARC provides a range of services designed to meet the practical and emotional needs of asylum seekers and refugees in Aberdeen. All of our services are delivered by trained volunteers and are completely free for those who need them.
Food Bank: We operate a food bank specifically for asylum seekers and refugees, providing essential groceries to those who cannot afford to buy food. Our food parcels include staple items, fresh produce where available, and culturally appropriate foods.
Clothing Bank: Many people arrive in the UK with nothing but the clothes they are wearing. We provide clean, appropriate clothing and shoes, free of charge. We also provide baby essentials, nappies, and winter coats during colder months.
Advice and Advocacy: Navigating the asylum system is complex and frightening. Our trained volunteers help service users understand the process, prepare for interviews, and communicate with solicitors and the Home Office.
Health Access: Registering with a GP, dentist, or accessing mental health support can be daunting for new arrivals. We accompany service users to appointments and help them navigate the healthcare system.
Befriending: Loneliness and isolation are major challenges for asylum seekers. Our befriending service pairs volunteers with individuals for regular check-ins, conversation, and social support.
Volunteering Opportunities: We provide volunteering roles within AARC that give service users a sense of purpose, routine, and the chance to build skills and confidence while their asylum claims are processed.
All visits to our hub are by appointment only, to protect the identities and safety of the people we support.
